Overland Park, KS Arboretum Visitors Center Construction Photography for Doherty Steel

The work we do for Doherty Steel is so fun and so fascinating! We’ve been on a lot of their job sites now but this project, under construction by McCown Gordon Construction Company, is so unique and was just a blast to be creative with. Be sure to follow DSI on LinkedIn!

Overland Park Arboretum’s new Visitors Center consists of 230 tons of steel, and a majority of it is rolled, meaning the normally straight iron beams now have a curve to them though the rolling process. This choice is what made this construction site so fun to photograph and get some abstract photographs that you don’t normally see in construction photography!

Speaking of #Constructionphotography, this is only one of the many areas our company is assisting DSI with marketing in 2021!

For the past year we have been creating an entire new body of work showing their fabrication process, the steel and precast erection processes, and showcasing their completed projects with dynamic photography … which will all end up on their brand new website that we are directing the design of.

We have a lot of other marketing projects we are assisting them with including design of a new company brochure, a new careers brochure, updated trade show banners, 2 billboards, corporate artwork, media placements, social media management and more.

DSI just completed 2 expansions over a 2 year period and it has been fun to be along for the ride, helping them tell their story. Thank you to Chance Doherty for being an amazing client and awesome to work with.

KS Float Spa’s New Location Off 119th & Quivira

What a joy it was capturing KS Float Spa’s new location off 119th & Quivira in Overland Park, KS! We can’t wait to return and experience the relaxation of floating for ourselves!

Their lovely color scheme of white and teal really complements the design of the spa and immediately sends you into a relaxed state! By using a combination of flash and natural light, we were able to make the teal colors pop against the white walls and properly expose all decorative lighting elements.

The float tanks have LED lights that can be set to different colors which made for some fun pictures! With the help of our 11mm – 25 mm wide-angle lens, we were able to capture as much of the float tanks as possible to show the serenity of the water!

Visit their website to learn about the benefits of floating such as reduced stress, sleep recovery, detoxification, and improved health! While you’re there, book a session for yourself or a unique gift for a friend!

CORE | Modern Apartments on Berkley Riverfront: Photography completed for Neighbors Construction Company and NorthPoint Development – Part 1

CORE is such a gorgeous community located on the Berkley Riverfront! These images turned out so beautifully and our clients NorthPoint Development & Neighbors Construction Company, Inc. are thrilled with them!

Earlier this year we captured the clubhouse interior amenities, both model units, the penthouse unit and the special D2 Mezzanine unit with 20+ ceilings.

It has been a labor of love and the community website looks incredible with our images!

We are so honored to have worked with Neighbors Construction and NorthPoint Development for nearly 7 years! Every community raises the bar in luxury apartment living and it is so fun to be along for the ride.

We track construction progress on all of Neighbors’ jobs from groundbreaking to completion, and it is so satisfying seeing the completed projects and getting to create the images that show it off! It’s almost surreal to watch them turn a pile of dirt turn into a luxury community over a 2+ year period! We proudly maintain their project page one their website where you can view the progress of this amazing project!

Thank you to Neighbors Construction & NorthPoint Development for being such great clients and congrats on a beautiful project!

Meadowbrook Park for Landworks Studio

Thank you to Landworks Studio for working with us to capture their work on Meadowbrook Park in Prairie Village, KS!

It was fun for Arch Photo KC owner | photographer Jacia Phillips to break out of the typical ‘architectural photography’ mode & include her family in the photos (alongside the Bieker Family). It was an absolutely beautiful evening and the lighting in the sandpit was so perfect! Everyone loves how nicely they turned out!

More info on the client’s project scope from the Landworks Studio website:

“Johnson County Parks and Recreation selected a team led by Landworks Studio to develop a master plan and Phase I construction documentation for this 80-acre park, which was redeveloped from the former Meadowbrook Golf and Country Club. This redevelopment effort was aimed at transforming this under-utilized acreage into a mixed-use community with public park space acting as an anchor for private development. The design team took advantage of the existing topography, open vistas, and mature trees from the former fairways to create a one-of-a-kind park. Phase 1 of the project which was completed in summer of 2019 included the majority of the master plan’s design intent. Built amenities include a destination playground, secondary play areas intended for toddlers, a sledding hill, three ponds, a rebuilt trail network, an outdoor senior fitness station, pickleball courts, three shelters, a restroom, and a 12,000 SF activity center.”

The park is located on Nall Avenue at Somerset and is just incredible. Have you been there? Let us know in the comments!

Construction Photography for Doherty Steel

Many thanks to Doherty Steel who brought us out to capture their installation process on a very large logistics project in Kansas City, KS. It was an honor to create this collection of images that conveys the magnitude of the construction process and the role that structural steel plays.

This project for Doherty Steel represents some of the very best construction images we have ever completed. The timing of the project was perfect and the action was on point! They are very happy with the images and we are assisting them with printing the on metallic HD metal to place throughout their HQ.

The work on the interior was just as interesting and “photogenic”:

These images were a joy to capture and it was so fun to be on site! Thank you, Doherty Steel, for letting us show you what we can do, and cheers to the next project!

Shamrock East Campus – Overland Park, KS

Shamrock East Campus is one of our favorite recent architectural photography projects in Kansas City. Located at 94th & Metcalf, the building is the first of numerous buildings to be constructed as HQs for Shamrock Trading Corporation, the parent company for a family of brands in transportation services, finance and technology.

We would like to thank Bell/Knott & Associates’ lead architect, Justin Murray, who commissioned our work, and brought along additional clients. The lead designer, Kate, really knocked it out of the park with the creative and contemporary finishes!

We were also proud to work with Shamrock Trading Corporation, JE Dunn Construction, Gibbens Drake Scott Inc., FSC, Inc., Scott Rice Office Works, Seal-O-Matic Paving Company and (soon) U.S. Engineering.

Below are exterior images which we captured using the 24′ Manfrotto tripod which captures high res images from an elevated anglem which adds great grandeur to the building.

The interior spaces were ready for photography in January 2021. There are 2 lobbies to greet visitors: one at the south entrance and a grand 2-story open lobby at the north entrance. The ground level also includes a large fitness center and deluxe conference room. The colors and textures used throughout the building are truly exceptional.

Scott Rice Office Works supplied most of the office furniture and their team is always a pleasure to work with. Many times they furnish the buildings we capture, and they get to select from proofs for licensing. We have also worked with them on 8 other projects including the Johnson County Courthouse, Community America Bank and numerous education projects.

The break spaces are excitingly contemporary and were a thrill to capture. How refreshing compared to office buildings of the past! We have photographed and seen many buildings, and this is one of our favorites ever.

In some of the images, we featured people moving throughout the space to capture human connection to the space and to show scale. Justin Murray and Kait Smith are captured in the above image.

In the above image, the middle lighting sconce was not lit, so we fixed that, and we also removed strong color casts on the ceiling coming from the blue and green on the floor. It was a night & day difference once the ceiling was white again!

We appreciate the many connections that Justin Murray made for us to project partners. It was exciting to work with Jeff Kling with GDS Engineering to explore and capture the mechanical systems of the building and hear about how everything works to keep the building running.

The most exciting part about this project is that it’s not done yet! We will be back this spring for beautiful drone images and to also capture the breathtaking rooftop terrace on the southwest corner of the 8th floor. #StayTuned

Liberty High School Performing Arts Wing

In March 2021, Universal Construction commissioned architectural photography documenting their work in constructing the new Performing Arts Wing at Liberty (Mo) High School. What contemporary spaces they are!

We’d like to thanks Zak Smith of Universal Construction for reaching out to us. He found our company through a Google search, and we worked hard to convert him to a client. It began with an email to us, then a phone call to discover his needs and explain our process. Our photo shoot was fun and for the most part didn’t require much finessing the the space.

However, the music room required about 30 minutes of set up. We had to move the chairs, line them up, make all the music stands the same height, move instruments including the large drums on rollers to stage the scene … Then once we were ready, it took about 30 seconds to capture a series of bracketed images. It was almost anti-climactic in how fast we captured them compared to the set-up time!

We are thrilled that Universal Construction’s team is pleased with the image collection and would like to work with us again in the future. They are celebrating 90 years of being in business, and we wish them continued success!

Community America Bank

Many thanks to A.L. Huber General Contractor for commissioning photography of the new Community America Bank in Leavenworth, Ks in February 2021, and for bringing along the architect, GastingerWalker&, to license images as well.

Both firms were able to select from images captured on the early morning photoshoot completed before the bank opened for business at 9 a.m.

They selected 5 images each, and just 1 image was the same between firms. Below is a compliation of both firms’ selections.

Lead Photographer & Arch Photo KC owner, Jacia Phillips, appeared as a model in numerous images, along with Courtney Sullivan, marketing director at GastingerWalker&.

The final images are composites on multiple exposures layered onto one final image. It was a pleasure creating these images. Showing people and movement in the space is helpful to show scale and adds human interest to the collection.
